How to configure notifications
In this article, you’ll learn how to configure notification preferences in DealerClub so you receive alerts for the auction activity that matters most to you. Notification settings allow you to control which events trigger alerts and how you receive them, including mobile notifications, email, and SMS text messages.
Configuring notifications correctly helps ensure you stay informed about bidding activity, saved search matches, comments, and account updates without being overwhelmed by unnecessary alerts.
To get started
Go to the Cars.com Hub and click on DealerClub.
1 Go to your notification settings
To access notification preferences:
- Click your name in the top-right corner of DealerClub
- Select Notification Settings from the account menu
This opens your Notification Settings page, where all notification options are managed.

2 Configure your notification preferences
From the Notification Settings page, notifications are grouped by category:
- Buying
- Selling
- Comments
- Account & Dealership
- Miscellaneous
Each category contains specific events you can opt into or out of, depending on what activity you want to be notified about.
Scroll through each category and review the available notification options.

3 Choose how you want to be notified
For each notification type, you can choose how you receive alerts:
- Mobile (app notification)
- SMS (text message)
Use the Mobile, Email, or SMS buttons to toggle notifications on or off:
- Gray = off (you will not be notified)
- Blue = on (you will be notified)
For example, if Mobile is turned off and Email is turned on for a saved search alert, you will receive an email notification but not a mobile alert when matching inventory is listed.

Note for Mobile App Users:
If you use the DealerClub mobile app, enabling Mobile notifications in DealerClub is only part of the setup.
You must also allow notifications at the device level:
- Open your mobile device Settings
- Locate the Notifications section
- Ensure notifications are enabled for the DealerClub app
Without device-level permission, mobile alerts will not appear even if they are enabled in DealerClub.
4 Review all notification categories
Continue scrolling through each category to review and adjust preferences based on your role and responsibilities.
Examples:
- In Comments, you can choose whether to be notified when another user tags you in a comment
- In Account & Dealership, admins can control notifications for events such as:
- A team member accepting an invitation
- A user being removed from the dealership account
The goal is to balance awareness with relevance so important activity is not missed.


5 Set up SMS notifications
SMS notifications are delivered as text messages and require a phone number to be configured.
To enable SMS alerts:
- Click Manage SMS Settings at the top of the Notification Settings page
- Enter your mobile phone number (this may already be populated from your profile)
- Toggle Enable SMS Notifications on
- Click Save
Once enabled, any notification types with SMS toggled on will be sent as text messages.


6 View notifications within DealerClub
In addition to receiving alerts externally, you can review notifications directly within DealerClub.
- Click the globe icon to view recent notifications
- Filter notifications by All, Unread, or Read
- Click View All Notifications to see a complete history of alerts
This allows you to reference activity even if you did not open an email or mobile notification.
